Ngondro the Preliminary Practices

Weekend Retreat with Tempa Dukte Lama

Saturday, June 20, 9:30am-5pm, Sunday, June 21, 10am-1pm

Alma Yoga, 67 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, NY 13783-1037

During this special weekend, Tempa Lama will teach the ancient Tibetan preliminary Bon practices known as “Ngondro”. Ngondro practice is very beneficial for our life. It helps us connect deeply with our spiritual teachers and cultivate and stabilize the heart and mind that wish to benefit all beings. Ngondro is a powerful practice for purifying our karmic tendencies and negativities, cleansing our body, speech and mind and preparing us to recognize our true nature.

The Ngondro practices include contemplation of the Four Thoughts that turn the mind toward transformation: the impermanent nature of existence, the preciousness of our life, the nature of suffering, and the law of cause and effect. Tempa Lama will explain how these contemplations can help us in our lives. Ngondro further includes the prayer to one’s teacher, taking refuge in the three jewels of the path of liberation, generating the heart and mind of awakening, mandala offering, purification through the 100-syllable mantra, and the three heart mantras of Bon. Tempa Lama will explain these practices and give the transmission.

Tempa Dukte Lama is an ordained Tibetan Bon lama. He is the founder and spiritual director of Olmo Ling Bon Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Tempa Lama is an artist and poet and author of four books with Olmo Ling Publications, the first Bon publishing house which he founded in 2011. He trained in Menri Monastery, India, from the age of six under the close guidance of H.H. 33rd Menri Trizin, the spiritual head of the Bon tradition. Tempa Lama is dedicated to making the ancient teachings of Bon available and accessible in the West, helping people bring a practice of compassion, healing and happiness into their lives.
